Student loan repayment calculator 2026/27
Estimate payroll deductions for Plans 1, 2, 4 or 5 and compare each plan at the same regular salary.
Same pay, different thresholds
Compare the undergraduate plans.
The table uses the salary and pay frequency entered above. A postgraduate loan, when selected, is not added to these comparison figures.
| Plan | 2026/27 annual threshold | Rate above threshold | Est. annual deduction | Per pay period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plan 1 | £26,900 | 9% | — | — |
| Plan 2 | £29,385 | 9% | — | — |

| Plan 5 | £25,000 | 9% | — | — |
How payroll repayments are estimated
An undergraduate plan takes 9% of earnings above its threshold for the pay period. A postgraduate loan takes a separate 6% above its own threshold and can run at the same time. The model applies the selected monthly, weekly, fortnightly or four-weekly threshold and rounds each payroll deduction down to whole pounds.
Your plan is not chosen by salary. It normally depends on where and when you studied. Check official records or guidance rather than selecting the plan with the lowest deduction.
What this does not calculate
- Loan interest, outstanding balance or payoff date
- Self Assessment repayments or unearned income
- Multiple undergraduate-plan combinations or overseas repayment schedules
- Voluntary extra repayments, refunds or deductions earlier in the tax year
